What's on in the Lagoons Gallery for May

‘Life Beneath the Surface’ exhibition is a collaboration by Art Whitsunday Incorporated artists, highlighting their personal interpretation of life beneath natural surfaces in the Whitsundays.

Beneath the Surface artwork exhibition

Surfaces portrayed could be as diverse as rainforest canopy, reef coral ledge, fresh or salt water, cloud, flowering sugar cane, cave roof, sand, ground, or sky.

Our warm, wet, tropical climate supports prolific life through recurring life cycles in rich ecosystems where plants, creatures and microorganisms co-exist in lights and darkness, often unseen by the naked eye.

Underworlds could be depicted imaginatively, realistically, in stylised or abstract styles. A diverse range of artworks are exhibited. Come and explore beneath the surface for yourself to see what you may find.

This exhibition is on display in the Lagoons Gallery within the Botanic Gardens Café between Wednesday, May 1 to Sunday, May 26. The café is open Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 2pm and weekends 8am to 3pm (closed public holidays).
