School holidays activities

A range of exploring and creative activities are available each school holidays to help keep the kids entertained as they discover the flora and fauna of the botanic gardens.

Each school holidays, the gardens offer a range of self-guided, booked and drop-in activities for school aged children to create connections with nature and inspire children to find out more about the flora and fauna that surrounds them. These activities will be listed here.

Term 3 School Holiday Activities in the Botanic Gardens

Get involved and join us for some school holiday fun in the Botanic Gardens.

Wildlife Whitsundays, Frog Hotels, Aquatic Life display drop ins, and self-guided activities are all on offer to be enjoyed!

Outdoor Lawn Games with Mackay Regional Council Libraries, FREE, no booking required.

Join the Libraries team and try your hand at some of their outdoor games on the Tropical Sun Lawn. Family friendly activity.

Creatures of the Gardens Fun Facts Trail, REE, self guided activity, no bookings required.

Follow the trail and discover some of the creatures that make their home in the Botanic Gardens.

Kids container garden workshop - 'Hop into Frog Hotels' BOOKED ACTIVITY.

Create your own 5-star accommodation to take home for the tree frogs in your neighbourhood!  All materials provided.

> Tuesday, September 17, 10-11am on the Tropical Sun Lawn. Suitable for kids aged 8-15 years. Parental supervision required; places are limited. Phone the gardens on 4952 7300 to book your spot.

Wildlife Whitsunday Snake Education and Awareness Session and Wildlife Encounter Station, FULLY BOOKED.

Wildlife Whitsundays are coming to the botanic gardens to help you brush up on your local snake knowledge and safety. Whether you love snakes or want to run in the opposite direction, this is a unique opportunity for everyone to get involved. Afterwards, get up close with some of our wildlife, at our wildlife encounter stations. Parents and carers must be supervising children at all times. Tickets on sale soon via Eventbrite. Garden Friends 'Lagoons Life Aquatic Display' drop-in session, FREE drop-in sessions, no bookings required, family friendly, all ages.

Discover some of the creatures and plants that make their homes in and around the lagoons in the Botanic Gardens.

Self-guided activities

Tibbles Hunt
Held in the Tropical Shade Garden, Tibbles Hunt is available weekdays, 9am to 4pm (closed weekends and public holidays). Pick up an activity sheet from the gardens' Visitor Information Centre, find all the gnomes and decode the special message.

Bocce with a Buddy
Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm during school holidays
Malta Garden Bocce Court
Enjoy a game of bocce with a friend on our sand bocce court. Bocce sets are available to hire from the botanic gardens' Visitor Information Centre or bring your own to play. Cost is $5.00 to hire a bocce set. No bookings required however you may need to wait if the court is in use.
