‘Viewfinder’ by Jamie Wilcox

Viewfinder is an exhibition of oil paintings by Jamie Wilcox, a Brisbane-based artist who relocated to the Mackay region in 2020.

Jamie has a strong interest in visual art, photography and design and enjoys participating in creative workshops in her spare time.

In her professional life, she has studied, interned, volunteered, exhibited and worked in the Queensland arts sector.

Viewfinder is the first solo exhibition of the artist and also serves as a retrospective of her artwork to date.

The exhibition brings together a selection of her favourite oil paintings produced over the last ten years, with a series of new works consisting of fauna and flora inspired by time spent in the Mackay Botanic Gardens.

In her practice, Jamie is inspired by elements of the natural world, unique perspectives and the way light influences the world around us.

She collects photographs while travelling and in everyday life which form an archive that she utilises when composing her artworks, which are largely informed by views she has personally captured.

This exhibition is on display in the Lagoons Gallery within the Botanic Gardens Café from Wednesday, January 27 to Sunday, February 21.
