Friends of the Gardens Guided Walk… Queens Park and Orchid House

Discover the history of Queen Park, the Ken Burgess Tropical Display House and some of the beautiful trees with Sue McCormack. Sue manages Council’s orchid collection and has a passion for these plants that took her to the stunning 1 billon dollar Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, Kew Gardens in London and the Royal Sydney Botanic Gardens to learn and discuss the care of these stunning beauties.

Have a behind the scenes look at the orchid nursery, view the plans for the upcoming redevelopment of the site and enjoy Sue’s enthusiasm for horticulture and exciting events like the annual Orchid Extravaganza and the International Orchid Congress to be held in Mackay in 2015.

The walk commences at 10am at the Orchid House (via the Goldsmith Street entry), followed by a BBQ lunch in Queens Park. Please bring along a chair and a salad or dessert to share. RSVP to Maya essential by Thursday 3rd July.
