Friends of the Gardens

The Garden Friends are a mixture of nature lovers, gardeners, horticulturists, walkers, artists, bird observers, photographers, environmentalists, and all age groups are represented in our membership.

Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens is an amazing place and Garden Friends have been involved since its inception.

There is something for everyone to get involved in through a wide range of activities, including:

  • Gardening activities - daisy day planting, working in the nursery, plant propagation, weed and feed events.
  • Visitor Servicesguided walks, welcome friends, roving friends, information officer, Sunday rosters (opening Botanic Gardens Visitor Information and Tropical Shade Garden on Sundays) and assist Botanic Gardens staff with school holiday activities.
  • Fundraising and event supporters – support Photo Walkabout workshops and Botanic Gardens Day events.
  • Support conservation, education, and recreation work of the Botanic Gardens through flora and fauna interactive sessions.
  • Opportunities for plant data/ information collectors through photography and research.

There is so much to gain from being a Garden Friend - learn more about plants and gardening, participate in social activities, guided walks, organised excursions, barbecues, receive regular newsletters, discover new friends, and make a difference by giving something back to the community.

The Gardens Friends are an incorporated group working with the Botanic Gardens team to support the ongoing development of the gardens.
