10,000 Steps

10,000 Steps is a whole of community program that aims to increase the physical activity undertaken by residents.

In 2005, council along with Queensland Health and the Police Citizens Youth Club sign-posted walking circuits so residents can measure their 10,000 steps.

The Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens 10,000 Steps walk starts and finishes outside the amenity facilities at the Gardens Administration building on Lagoon Street.

Look for the start and finish signs located on the roof support pylon base. Follow the coloured route markers south - the route takes you across to the South Sea Islands Longhouse, back along the lower lagoon edge path to the PlayGarden and back again to the Visitors Centre. Each full loop of the circuit equals 5000 steps.

Circuits, brochures and maps are available on council's website.

Get active and step into a healthier lifestyle by participating in the 10,000 Steps program.
