Tropical Shade Gardens and The Fernery
This garden is located to the east of the Administration Building, surrounding three sides of the office. The other boundaries are fenced with black steel-tubed panels, two metres high to protect the plantings inside the perimeter. The existing shade trees were augmented by selected regional species to protect a collection of shade tolerant tropical foliage and flowering plants.
Several of the wharf piles have been located in the Shade Garden for creepers and epiphytes. These are several gravel and riverstone pathways winding around the gardens. Pedestrian access is through a single gateway just to the left of the main entrance to the administration building. This gate is closed and locked after hours.
