We get by...with a little help from our Friends

Actually the Botanic Gardens wouldn't exist without the great support of our Friends and Volunteers.

We want to say THANK YOU.

We all need the help of our Friends occasionally and the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens is no different. Fortunately, there are numerous groups that like to lend a hand in supporting, developing and maintaining the facility.

The list of individuals is too long to mention but the groups involved include The Friends of the Gardens, the Society for Growing Australian Plants (SGAP), Birdlife Mackay and many more. These groups and individuals provide assistance with a whole host of projects including planting bees, information events, guided walks and plant sales. Volunteers have always been essential to the success of the Botanic Gardens and we want to THANK YOU from the bottom of our plant pots.

It is amazing to think of all the people who get involved and who have been involved in supporting this amazing community facility. Our volunteers have already planted thousands and thousands of plants over the years, removed countless weeds, watered in equal numbers of plants and given many valuable hours of their own free time.
We want to THANK YOU

The Meadowlands area which is due to begin development in the coming years will directly benefit from the invaluable ongoing support of these same groups and individuals who have a passion for the community and all things botanical.

Friends of the Gardens carry out a number of fundraising initiatives each year, with all money raised being invested straight back into the gardens. The Society for Growing Australian Plants and its members have donated thousands of dollars’ worth of plant stock since the gardens were established. We want to THANK YOU.

As part of a nationwide campaign by the Botanic Gardens of Australia and New Zealand network (BGANZ) the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens will be hosting an Open Day on Sunday, May 29 from 7am to 4pm. The day will be largely run by our volunteer groups and include guided walks, palm weaving, bird watching, children’s activities and a fun run. Volunteers…We want to THANK YOU.

Come along and support our volunteers at the Botanic Gardens and enjoy what they have done for you.
