Six square patches of green grass

Have you noticed the six green square patches of grass in the Demonstration Gardens area of the Botanic Gardens? The Gardens are conducting turf trials.

Different species of turf grass have been chosen for their geographical suitability (which turf fairs best in our climatic conditions) in the Mackay region.

Six will be trialed in the first stage of the “Parade of Lawns”, which will showcase new turf grass and groundcover varieties in the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens.

The six different turfs are… Blue Couch (Digitaria didactyla ‘Tropika’),  Manila grass (Zoysia matrella ‘A1’), Seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum ‘Sealsle 1’),
Buffalograss (Stenotaphrum secundatum ‘Sir Walter’), Green couch (Cynodon dactylon ‘Greenlees Park’) , Broadleaf carpetgrass (Axonopus compressus).
