Volunteering opportunities

Are you interested in volunteering at the Botanic Gardens?

The Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens welcomes people in the community to register their interest to volunteer with us. Volunteer opportunities include:

Gardening volunteers

Get your hands dirty and spend a morning with our gardeners. Gardening volunteers meet on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 6.30am until noon and can take part in general gardening duties such as hand weeding and mulching duties. Please note numbers are limited, and availability will vary throughout the year depending upon garden’s works and programs in place.

Visitor Information officer volunteers

Visitor Information Officer volunteers help visitors with any questions they may have, offering directions, helping out with photographing plants in fruit and flower in the gardens.

Administration officer volunteers

Come and lend a hand with a range of activities, such as event planning and promotion in the Gardens, office administration duties, or even assist with community events throughout the year.

Volunteer guides

Are you interested in leading FREE guided walks in the Botanic Gardens during April and October? Our weekly Friday guided walks are delivered by knowledgeable volunteer guides. If you are interested in finding out how you can become a volunteer guide, contact us for more information.

Roaming guides

Roaming Guides volunteers come in Monday to Friday, between 9am and 3pm, helping out with visitor enquiries, pointing out plants of interest, handing out brochures and undertaking some light cleaning duties throughout the gardens to keep signage and benches looking their best.

If any of these volunteer opportunities interest you, please complete the online volunteer registration form or download and print the pdf and return to the Visitor Services Officer at the Botanic Gardens.
