Free Guided Walks in the Gardens

When? Every Friday at 9.30 am (April - October) or on request.
Where? Various locations throughout the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, West Mackay
Cost? FREE

The scenic lagoons and glorious foliage make perfect backdrops during your informative stroll (An hour -  hour and a half in duration). Grab a hat, sunscreen and water bottle and join us just before 9.30am at The Garden's Shop (in the Administration Building) or register by calling 49527300 or email botanic@mackay.qld.gov.au 

Guided walks are available for all interests - from specialist botanic, what's in flower now, bush tucker, history, endangered plants and the wildlife that lives in the Gardens - just to name a few. Walks are available for all ages, fitness levels, mobilities and group sizes.

Botanical Art Interest Group workshops

When? Monthly, 2nd Monday or 4th Wednesday from 9:00am - 11:30am
Where? Meeting Room, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens
Cost? FREE

Meet and exchange ideas with like-minded artists from beginners to advanced.

Take this wonderful journey, observing and recording plant life with a friendly group exchanging ideas and discussing different techniques.

The Botanical Art Interest Group allows you access to many of the beautiful specimens, tools and collections of the Botanic Gardens not accessible by the general public. Bring along your art supplies, comfortable shoes and clothes to explore the gardens and your inspiration!

Falun Gong meditation and relaxation

When? Weekly, Tuesday morning from 9am until 11am
Where? Tropical Sun Garden Lawn (under the Mango Tree) or on the Lagoons Cafe deck, 9 Lagoon Street, Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens
Cost? FREE

Falun Gong offers you relaxation, meditation and inner peace and health through movement. You're invited to come along and experience a session in the beautiful surrounds of the Botanic Gardens.

Herbarium Friends

When? Last Monday of each month from 9am to 11am
Where? Meeting Room, 9 Lagoon Street, West Mackay
Cost? FREE

The Herbarium Friends collect, record, press, dry and mount plant specimens collection from the Botanic Gardens. This fascinating process is an excellent choice for people with patience, an interest in flora and an eye for detail.

Mackay Bonsai Society Workshops

When? Monthly on the last Sunday from 1:30pm to 4.30pm

The Mackay Bonsai Society meet and share ideas - have you ever wanted to try the beautiful art of Bonsai? Come along for a look and listen - or if you are keen to learn more about this ancient art.

Australian Native Orchid Society (ANOS) Mackay Branch Workshops

When?  First Sunday of every month. 2.00 - 5.00pm

Society for Growing Australian Plants (SGAP) Mackay Branch Gardening Bees

When? Saturday mornings throughout the year from 7:30am
Where? Regional Forests Garden Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, West Mackay
Cost? FREE

For over 15 years, SGAP has been involved with the planting of gardens at our site.

SGAP now conduct regular gardening bees to prune, plant and weed these gardens first planted. A great activity if you’d like to get involved, learn about our local native plants and enjoy a little exercise!
