Access - Road, Rail and AirBy car from the South: Drive north along Highway A1/Nebo Road towards Mackay & Proserpine, past the Mackay Tourist Information Centre. You'll see the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens sign on your right as you cross the railway fly-over. 1 km from the Tourist Centre, turn off to the left into Lagoon Street at a large stand of pine trees and traffic lights. Our carpark entrance is less than 100 metres along Lagoon Street on the left. You can also access the garden's southern precincts by turning left at the Mackay Tourist Information Centre into Ram Chandra Drive, then right about 20 metres along - you'll see the South Sea Island's long house and carpark. Pathways lead into the Gardens from here. By car from the North: Drive south along Highway A1, turn right into Highway A1/Nebo Road towards the Mackay Tourist Information and Sarina. Travel along Nebo Road for just under 2 kms - you'll see a large stand of pine trees rising up on the left. Pass the large sign saying "Botanic Gardens turn left 350m". When you reach the pine trees at a set of traffic lights, turn left with care into Lagoon Street. Our carpark entrance is less than 100 metres along Lagoon Street on the left. Coach & Taxi Access: The Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens can be accessed by visitors without transport to Mackay city either by coach or by taxi. Mackay Transit Coaches Route 2 bus departs from the city on weekdays only, departing Canelands Shopping Centre in Victoria Street at 8:30am, 10am, 11:30am, 1pm, 2:30pm and 4:35pm. The journey takes about 15 minutes. A FREE bus operates on Sunday's - The Mackay Explorer - throughout the city and Mackay Marina. This is a hail and ride service, so if you are along the route - just wait at the kerb anywhere where you can be clearly seen and signal the bus as it approaches.
